How to Use the 3DEXPERIENCE Quick Access Toolbar
The 3DEXPERIENCE platform offers a wide range of capabilities and can certainly be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. One important part of the platform's interface is the top bar, which provides convenient access to various functions and options. In this blog, we will take a closer look at the 3DEXPERIENCE top bar and explore its different functions, helping you feel comfortable and ready to take on the next step!
What is the 3DEXPERIENCE Top Bar?
The top bar in 3DEXPERIENCE is the blue bar that runs along the top of your window once you log in. This hosts a number of capabilities including the search bar and some quick access tools. We’ll save the search capabilities for a blog of its own and focus on the quick access tools, which can be located in the top right corner of your window. There are 6 main icons, along with your profile information.
Profile Information
On the left-hand side of these quick access tools, all users should notice a name and a circle with either their initials or profile picture, if they have uploaded one. If you click on your initials/profile picture, you will be presented with some additional options.
My Status
Set your status to Online, Busy, Appear Away, or Appear Offline to let your colleagues know when to reach out vs. when to hold off.
Cookies
Reset the cookies popup to edit your preferences.
My profile
Edit your profile details, such as adding a profile picture, if desired.
Preferences
Edit your language as well as choose from 3DEXPERIENCE, CATIA, or SOLIDWORKS for your mouse profile to provide a familiar viewing experience in browser-based 3D apps.
Log out
Log out of your profile once you are done with your session.
If you have been invited to more than one company’s 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you will see a string of numbers (or a custom name if the platform admin has edited it) under your name, with a dropdown arrow next to it. This will allow you switch which profile you are logged into and provide access to certain roles that may only be available when working for a specific company. You may hear of these referred to as ‘tenants’.
Quick Access Tools
To the right of your profile information, there are 6 icons that each provide quick access to helpful tools.
Bell icon (Notifications)
Access a list of your notifications, such as when someone mentions you in a project update or a part needs your approval prior to release.
Plus icon (Add)
Add a new widget, tab, or story to a dashboard, or create a new dashboard altogether.
Arrow icon (Share)
Share a specific widget, tab, or entire dashboard with other users.
Triangle icon (Content)
Access non-revision-controlled documents from your cloud 3DDrive storage, similar to DropBox or Google Drive (you can actually link those for direct access as well).
Stick figures icon (Communities)
Access communities and conversations that can be used for project updates, communication, and collaboration, like Asana or Slack.
Question mark icon (Help)
Access helpful information, such as public user communities, or the 3DEXPERIENCE User Assistance.
Conclusion
The top bar in 3DEXPERIENCE provides you with tools to help streamline your day-to-day tasks, providing quick access to commonly used essential tools. While you may not use these all on day one, it’s valuable to understand where and what they are to help you stay efficient as you increase your usage of the wide array of capabilities available to you!
